How Furusato Nozei works
- 1Donate to any municipality in Japan through an official portal (e.g., Furusato Choice, Rakuten Furusato Nozei).
- 2Receive local products — wagyu beef, seafood, rice, fruits, crafts, and more as a thank-you gift.
- 3Get tax deductions — your donation (minus ¥2,000) is deducted from your income tax and resident tax the following year.
One-stop exception (ワンストップ特例)
If you donate to 5 municipalities or fewer and you are an employee who doesn't need to file 確定申告, you can use the ワンストップ特例制度. Just submit a simple form to each municipality instead of filing a tax return. The full deduction is applied to your resident tax automatically.
